What is camt.053? An ISO 20022 bank statement

camt.053 is a machine-readable statement sent by an account servicer to the account owner or an authorized party. It brings account balances and booked entries into accounting or ERP software as structured XML for reconciliation and posting.

What camt.053 is

camt.053 is the ISO 20022 machine-readable statement used in Finnish banking in place of the older Finnish TITO format. It contains account balances and individual transactions in structured XML, including reference data for incoming payments.

The structured format enables automatic reconciliation: software can match incoming reference payments to sales invoices with no manual work.

camt.053, camt053, or camt 053?

The spellings camt.053, camt053, and camt 053 refer to the same ISO 20022 Bank-to-Customer Statement message family. Banks also identify a schema version, such as camt.053.001.08. Your software must recognize the version delivered by the bank and its bank-specific implementation guidelines.

Key elements of a camt.053 statement

The element paths below are the ones accounting and ERP software reads most often. They exist in both camt.053.001.02 and camt.053.001.08; in version 08 the entry status is nested as Sts/Cd. The bank's implementation guideline defines which optional elements it fills.

The shortened example is illustrative, not a file produced by a bank.

How the statement is retrieved

The statement is retrieved over the bank's Web Services channel with a signed message. Retrieval requires valid certificates and a Web Services agreement with the bank. Incoming reference payments can be retrieved similarly as a separate file.

camt.053 and camt.054 serve different needs

camt.053 summarizes account balances and booked entries for a reporting period. camt.054 is a debit or credit notification that a bank may provide before the next statement. Availability and delivery frequency depend on the bank agreement.

What Finnish bank specifications say about camt.053

Finance Finland's ISO 20022 Transaction Reporting Guide (version 1.4, August 2020) defines camt.053 as the official account statement supplied by the bank and approved by the Finnish Accounting Standards Board. It reports booked transactions, their specifying transactions and balances; intraday reporting uses camt.052.

OP's XML account reporting guide (April 2016) describes three camt.053 files: statement (TI), re-issued statement (TU) and group account statement (KT). Retrieval requires a written agreement that fixes the camt version and the maximum uncompressed file size; larger files are split.

Nordea's Corporate Access Account Reporting guide (version 1.8, November 2021) covers Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark. One file holds one message, and each entry holds one or more transaction details depending on the booking option the customer has chosen. Danske Bank's CGI guide (version 7.0, September 2026) builds on the Common Global Implementation recommendation and the Finnish national recommendations. Samlink's Web Services service description (version 1.5, July 2025) lists the XML statement as file type XT.

Every document listed below describes version camt.053.001.02.
